Game analysis: Cellular vs. WLAN
نویسنده
چکیده
To date, the growth of mobile communications has been fuelled almost exclusively by voice calls. However, voice is becoming a saturated market, and with increasing competition forcing lower prices, leading to a trend of declining ARPU, mobile operators are seeking to introduce new services in order to maintain growth. Industry forecasts predict that revenues from data traffic will compensate for the decreasing voice ARPU and will further grow to become an important portion of the overall mobile operator revenue in the future. From a technological perspective mobile operators can leverage their data service offering using cellular data networks such as GPRS, EDGE and WCDMA, wireless access networks such as IEEE 802.11b, or a combination of both wireless and cellular with various degrees of interworking capabilities. This paper investigates mobile operator strategies in adopting wireless vs. cellular technologies for leveraging data services. The main purpose of the paper is to highlight the most relevant parameters that may be used in modeling mobile operator strategies in adopting network technologies enabling data service offering to their subscribers.

Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivation in an Interactive Engineering Game
In this paper, we study intrinsic vs. extrinsic motivation in players playing an electrical engineering gaming environment. We used UNTANGLED, a highly interactive game to conduct this study. This game is developed to solve complex mapping problem from electrical engineering using human intuitions. Our goal is to find whether there are differences in the ways anonymous players solved electrical...
متن کاملAn efficient non-repudiation billing protocol in heterogeneous 3G-WLAN networks
The wireless communication with delivering variety of services to users is growing rapidly in recent years. The third generation of cellular networks (3G), and local wireless networks (WLAN) are the two widely used technologies in wireless networks. 3G networks have the capability of covering a vast area; while, WLAN networks provide higher transmission rates with less coverage. Since the two n...
متن کاملUser-Network Association in an 802.11 WLAN & 3G UMTS Hybrid Cell: Individual Optimality
More and more users subscribing to wireless broadband services are seeking to have access to both WLAN and UMTS networks. We study individually optimal user-network association in an integrated WLAN and UMTS hybrid cell. The association problem is formulated within a non-cooperative game framework. In the formulation, mobile arrivals are assumed to follow the Poisson process and each mobile con...
متن کاملOnline Interactive Game Traffic: A Survey & Performance Analysis on 802.11 Network
With rapid growth of notebooks and mobile devices, the wireless local area network (WLAN) is expected to carry more vast varieties of traffic. While traffic such as file transferring, voice and video are carefully studied, online interactive game traffic has not yet received much attention with respect to its growing share in today’s Internet traffic. Some papers had analyzed and proposed traff...
متن کاملInvestigation of Game Between Cells in Occurrence of Genetic Mutations Using Evolutionary Game Theory
In this paper, two games that play a role in creating a cancer tumor and suppression are studied using evolutionary game theory and its different modes are analyzed. The first game is the competition between a cancer cell and a healthy cell to receive food through the blood. In the second game, the interaction between the two oncogenes Ras and Myc is examined for cellular deformation
